Wet woods
Luke texted early this morning to say it was snowing in London. I cannot recall snow in London in November before, not in recent years anyway. It has rained all day - actually not much when I took Xena out on her walk, but later it rained consistently throughout the day. The woods were damp and soggy and I had to be careful as the exposed tree roots were very slippery.
I was meant to play golf today but late last night we cancelled as it looked too wet and too cold and undoubtedly would be too muddy. Instead I met my friend at the golf centre where we have our group lessons and played a virtual game of golf on Top Tracer - I played Gleneagles golf course!
Afterwards we had a flat white to warm up, and discussed the state of care homes (her mum is in one and she is not happy with the level of care), the new government's budget (increase taxes, increase national debt yet no increase in economic growth) - and the huge protest today in London by the farmers on the government's change to inheritance tax. In summary the farmers are now subject to inheritance tax of 20% on inherited agricultural assets worth over £1 million, which of course applies to so many of them with the high property prices in the UK. As farmers are asset rich but cash poor it means their beneficiaries will lose the farms as they won't be able to pay the inheritance tax. The farmers all came to London in their tractors - Gavin saw them on the motorway this morning while driving to work - and Jeremy Clarkson was amongst them.
Still no news on my plane seat. Not sure how I can be booked on a flight, with a confirmed seat and then the seat disappears. The travel agent is on the case but said that airlines reserve the right to make such changes, and they are holding back seats until check in, which sounds crazy. I am getting worried despite being told it will all be fine.
