Whose stupid idea was that....

Another hot day today, temperatures of 28C and Gavin someone stupidly decided it would be a good idea to get the gondola to the very top of the mountain and cycle all the way down again. The gondola was full of downhill mountain bikers - this new extreme sport seems to be really taking off in these mountains, and the bikers all had specialised bikes and were wearing all the correct protective gear...and there was us with the dog and normal mountain bikes and wearing shorts and t shirts.

The views from the top were stupendous, and although I took some photos of the boys and their bikes against the view, Adam had such a scowl on his face as he really did not want to be there doing this on such a hot day So I decided not to blip that.

The track down started off by being stony with many loose rocks and after about 400m it became a gorge with huge rocks and stones and was extremely steep. By now Adam's scowl had worsened, and all of us were losing our sense of adventure (and humour) saying 'Whose stupid idea was this anyway?' We had to walk down the gorge pushing our bikes, slipping and sliding...Gavin obviously felt bad as he came back and carried my bike down for me!

Once we passed all the loose stones tracks and repaired a puncture or two and finally got going on a more reasonable path, it was fairly pleasant. It was hardly exercise though - the main bit that got exercised was my hand muscles from gripping the brakes so hard all the way down. We descended 1085m in about 10km.

This is a view of the valley on the way down, looking on to the glacier in the distance
