Goosander
When we woke this morning there was plenty of fog around, but thankfully it cleared by around 9 so we drove over to Yarrow Valley Country Park as per our original plan to make the best of the day before the rain came.
It was quite cold but we wrapped up warm and with no wind, it was quite pleasant at just over 1 degree celsius.
We found half a dozen female goosanders on Little lodge behind the cafe to start with which was nice, until somebody spooked them and they all flew off.
A quick glimpse of a kingfisher gave us hope - at least it was around. We did see it flying around top lodge but no shots today. No problem as there were plenty of other birds around including Jays and Nuthatches (see extras).
A very nice morning. Snow is forecast tonight and the gritters were out on the motorway on the way home. I'm guessing it won't amount to much just yet, or at least I hope it doesn't :)
