Sunset over the mountains

I like this time of year; it isn't too hard to do both ends of the day. We got up in the dark as usual, and headed up the hill. So the sunrise appeared (out of the sea) with nice colours and a few streaky clouds. Not as parallel to the ocean as yesterday, though.

Then towards the end of the day I captured a few orchid blooms in the living room with the late light catching them. Then, surprisingly, after a clear sky during the day, the clouds built up towards sunset and there was nice colour and some interesting shapes. Two columns of cloud made for dramatic compositions, and I had trouble deciding which image to use. Here is one of the column closest to the sunset. I expect a few other Christchurch people saw it.
