IT'S MOTORHEAD SUNDAY
Today's offering is one of the first ever "pick up" trucks...a "ute" if you're from Downunder. This is a 1929 Ford Model A Half-ton Pickup. I saw this one at the Sheboygan Marsh while it's owner was having breakfast at the lodge.

My uncles had a '29 Ford coupe and they did a self-modification into a pickup truck. They sawed off the back passenger area with a hack saw and built a wooden box used to ferry gravel from the pit behind the cottage and filled in a swampy area between the cottage and the lake. This was done back in the 50s when the general population wasn't educated about the importance of wetlands...they were thought of as wasted land and many people filled them in. All done by hand with a shovel.

Our Model A was affectionately known as the Putt-Putt after the sound the straight 4 cylinder engine made when running. All we 7 cousins used to ride from place to place in the "box" that was built for gravel hauling. The driver had a real bucket seat....it was literally an old bucket set upside down. It had a three speed floor shifter and a gravity feed gasoline tank...you can see the filler port in front of the wind shield in the main Blip. It had trouble going up hill with 7 cousins in the box and 2 adults in the cab. If it couldn't get up enough speed to make it to the top of the hill (due to the people weight) we had to coast back down hill and then go up the hill in reverse so gravity would continue to feed the carburetor. Loads of fun...especially in traffic.
