Pike's Peak

Altitude - 14,110ft above sea level! Yup that's where we headed to first this morning ... Up to the highest peak of the Rocky's here in Colorado Springs. We went up on a cog tram which took 1 1/2 hrs each way and a drop of about 15-20C at the top. We were well prepared, thanks to Bob and Gail, but I did feel sorry for other tourists in shorts and tshirts. Passed by some breathtaking views of the countryside where I got this pic. For this desert girl, these scenes are mind blowing! Lovely to be up there and get a birds eye view of Colorado Springs.

We were advised to drink plenty of water on the way up and then back down again because altitude sickness can make you feel unwell for days. We were good about drinking water but some of us still felt quite ill and woozy at the top.

Back down again for another first time experience of the delicious chicken sandwich at Chick-Fil-A ... We've heard so much about this from our American friends, and we finally got to taste it for the first time. Definitely going back there.

Then Bob drove us around the amazing Garden of the Gods. I had no idea this was even in Colorado Springs so when they suggested we could go visit, we were really keen. It was so beautiful. I really wanted to blip a picture of the rock formations but all the nice pix are in the Nikon which I can't access right now :( I'll have to add all the best pix from our holiday on my blipfolio when I get back.

I was just thrilled to be able to see this beautiful, natural phenomenon right before my eyes. It started raining just minutes after we got there, so I was grateful that we got some good pix.

Martin's still feeling quite headachey after our trip up the mountain ... hopefully we'll all be fine tomorrow.
