Caton (slight return)
A few weeks ago, I posted a photo of this tree. To be honest, I wasn't very pleased with it, so today, as I was passing on the way back from a meeting in Lancaster (and a swift shopping trip to Preston), I had another go.
This, however, was not my standout event of the day. Oh no.
I'd been working from home, prior to going to the meeting in Lancaster, but as I set off, I realised I needed some petrol. Thus, I drove to the garage on the A65 near where I live, pulled up at an appropriate pump (diesel), turned off the engine and got out of the car. We do these things on auto-pilot, don't we? Mind elsewhere, I carried on with the routine, opening the cover, unscrewing the petrol cap.
On my way through the shop, I stopped to pick up a Coke Zero - delayed once again by the choice of names: trying to find one that was either significant or insignificant but not giving the impression of being significant when it wasn't - and then proceeded to the till.
"Pump one, please, and this" I said, placing my Coke Zero on the counter.
The man behind the counter looked at his display panel and then out at my car. Then he looked at the panel again. And then he looked at me.
"You haven't put any fuel in."
