Remembrance Sunday
Two minutes silence observed in Foulsham, this year also the scene of the (Facebook) 192 Squadron Research Group two day get together; with relatives of those who served at RAF Foulsham during WWII.
What made it even more special was that two veterans were also in attendance, one being 102, and the other I believe 98.
After the two minute silence and church service there was an excellent display by the Foulsham Archive Group, covering both WWI & WWII.
My picture is of the table I had in the church displaying some of my Grandfathers WWII artefacts. He was a Squadron leader at Foulsham, and was the Acting Commander in the final days of RAF Foulsham.
He was a pilot and was awarded the DFC for leading a mission, via Lossiemouth in Scotland, to hunt for the Tirpitz (sister ship of the Bismarck), that the Germans had tried to hide in the Norwegian fjords.
The Tirpitz was located by crews under his command on this mission; and was some months later successful destroyed.
Operations at Foulsham by the 192 Squadron were covered by the Officials Secrets Acts for many decades after the war; as their ELINT work was cutting edge and highly secret.
