Lala's Journal

Christmas

The castle has been closed for three days and I had expected a lot more of the decorations to be in place today. Not sure it will all be ready in time!
Several frustrations today - major ones being….
1. I downloaded the leads from the education show to find only 8! All day scanning badges and 8 downloaded. EMails back and forth, they hope to have it sorted by Monday. I will not be paying £200 for the scanner next year!
2. Whilst in the castle this morning I listened to one of the castle team of story tellers relate a great story to a bunch of visitors. He told them how Queen Joan of Navarre had been imprisoned in the room he indicated in 1481. He told a great tale of the luxury she enjoyed and how 400 years later, the family had seen a ‘lady in white’ glide across the room. Queen Joan no less, apparently. Forget the rubbish about ghosts, the fact that the room he was talking about is on the upper floor that was added by Henry VIII in the 1540s was what appalled me. I’ve no idea what has happened to staff training in the castle, but it sure isn’t how I was trained!
