Sculpture - Essex Man
...........with apologies for anyone from Essex.
We have been in Colchester on a 2 day break with friends from my RAF days.
We visited First Sight, which is an art gallery cum cafe. We were greeted by this 8.5 m sculpture of Essex Man. It arose out of an article written in 1990 by Sunday Telegraph journalist Simon Heffer, in which he coined the phrase "Essex Man" and described a new type of 1990's Conservative Party voter as someone "young, industrious, mildly brutish and culturally barren!" This sculpture is by artist Michael Landy as part of his "Welcome to Essex" exhibition in 2021.
The gallery is worth a visit if you are ever in Colchester.
