A quiet place to read
Sat outside with a glass of water and my kindle, enjoying the occasional bird call, and enough sun to stave off the cold.
The Hikoi to Parliament went through Auckland/Tamaki Makaurau Thursday morning. Crossing the Harbour Bridge by foot, the thousands, tens of thousands of marchers caused the bridge to sway.
Thursday was also the day that the Treaty Principles Bill was tabled for a first reading. Opposition to the Bill is immense, and some MPs became very angry. Willie Jackson, a senior Labour Party MP became so angry that he accused David Seymour (whose Bill this is) of lying. He would not withdraw nor apologise, and was ordered out of the House by the Speaker. Later in the afternoon, another Labour MP began a Haka (a challenge to Seymour) and was joined by all opposition MPs in the House at the time as well as some in the gallery.
The vote to accept the Bill was taken later in the day; All the ACT party MPs voted for the Bill, and every other MP from every other Party voted against it. I would have thought that would be the end of it but it has been referred to a select committee.
The man responsible for this Bill (Seymour) accuses those who oppose the Bill as causing division between New Zealanders. I do not understand why those who interview him don't ask him why people who don't agree with his ideas are causing division when if had not raised this issue in this way, there would be no such division.
