Shades of Winter
A quick grab today of one of our most common winter residents, the Dark Eyed Junco. They show up each fall, harbingers of winter. I have often thought that their nearly monotone colors are well suited to the drab colors of our winters here. This same view, in the summer, would have a lush background of green.
We had our fireplace cleaned this morning and now have a toasty warm fire blazing away. It's cold outside although the winds have finally died down. Hopefully that will aide the firefighters in controlling the wildfires - it is rare for us to ever have wildfires but we are in a severe drought so conditions have been perfect for fires. Luckily for us, the closest one is at least 25 miles from us, but still, one worries.
I'm tired today so after lunch I had a nice nap. I take my weekly dose of immunosuppressant on Wednesday night, so Thursday is always a crap shoot in terms of how I feel. Today, I've mostly just felt very tired. A good day to take it easy.
I'm avoiding most of the news right now. Some of the picks "he" is making for his cabinet are alarming although not altogether surprising. So I am skimming the headlines and not spending a lot of time reading the gory details.
Last night Hubs and I watched "Random Hearts" which was really good. I know I must have seen it when it first came out in 1999, but honestly, I didn't remember much of it. Anyway, the acting was good and the story was well paced.
