The Red List
We saw, and photographed, many beautiful birds today at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve including an avocet, redshanks, little egrets, and this beautiful curlew.
From what I read, the curlew is on the red list for UK Birds of Conservation Concern, meaning it is threatened and the population is in decline.
The avocet was once extinct in the UK but is now on the amber list of the same body but on the red list for birds (2021).
I therefore feel very fortunate to have seen and photographed them. How many more species must we lose before we get the message?
