This is Baird's Tapir (Tapirus bairdii)...an obscure Central and South American mammal. No......it isn't a rodent but rather an Odd-Toed gazing mammal, which makes it first kin to rhinos and horses. The species is the largest of three distinct tapirs native to the area and is listed as Endangered, there being fewer that 5000 individuals world-wide. This one lives at the zoo in Milwaukee.

They can reach 5 feet (1.5m) in length and can weigh up to 650 pounds (295kg). In the wild, these herbivores eat leaves and fruits, twigs, small saplings, and aquatic vegetation. They browse under story vegetation, acting as seed dispersers. They are often prey for crocodilians, jaguars and cougars.

BEST IN LARGE.
