Big Sur Highway -- Lucia, California

This photo is looking down on the little burg of Lucia, CA. USA.

This morning we decided this would be an ideal day to drive north on Hwy.#1 into the region of the Big Sur Coast. We stopped in San Simeon for breakfast and then drove toward Ragged Point. There we stopped because they have great restrooms, great overlooks, and several little gift shops. They has have a wonderful restaurant where we have eaten breakfast numerous times and they also have an outdoor "fast food" place. We got the three pooches out of the car and took them for a long walk and took several photos. Then we were on our way again headed further north.

We pulled off the rode to take a look at Limekiln State Park campground. What a beautiful place where a very full and quickly moving creek flows into the ocean. We were allowed to park our car for 10-15 minutes to walk around and get a quick look at this lovely place. We also had the option of purchasing a $10 day pass. We opted for the 10-15 minute lookey.

Ultimately after the campgroup, we drove as far as Lucia before we turned around. Right before Lucia, we drove the two miles up the winding, switch-back road to the monastery -- the New Camaldoli Hermitage. We always enjoy their bookstore. Today's photo was taken from the road to the Hermitage.

While there I stopped at the display of books written by Paula Huston. She is an author new to me, and while I didn't purchase any of her books, I hope to find some in the local libraries. She was a professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for 20 years before leaving that position to write fulltime. So I'm looking forward to getting to know her better through her writings.

After turning around to make our way south, we stopped at Gorda just to purchase a soda pop and then be on our way.

If it had not been so late in the day we probably would have driven into the lovely little community of Cambria on our way to Cayucos. We saved that for another day.
