This is the day

A place for everything ...

… and everything in its place. (A favourite saying of my mother’s.)

I had a parcel in the post today, containing a wooden frame with rows of long pegs. This will be screwed to my craft room wall – it is designed to hold 36 large cones of overlocker thread. As my overlocker machine needs four of these cones in each colour in order to create the overlocking stitch, you can imagine how much storage space they require. I already had black, grey, navy and white* cones which were just stored in a tin, but today’s order also included four each of pink, mint green and lilac cones, so this frame will accommodate all my 28 cones on the wall, with eight to spare.

I can’t wait to get down to some sewing.  I seem to have been printing Christmas cards non-stop for about three weeks, but today I finished all the post-sale orders – all 117 packs – and, once they’ve been delivered, I should have a bit more time to myself. I’ve promised myself I will do some dressmaking as a way of relaxing, and am so looking forward to it. I’m also hoping to find more time for commenting on Blipfoto; I’m sorry I’ve been so behind on that.

My photo shows my overlocker with a little scrap of fabric on which I recently practised shirring with elastic in the bobbin spool. You can see from the size of the white cones why I needed to find a storage solution!

* These colours were for boys' and men's trousers and school uniforms. The new pastel colours are for granddaughters!
