Morning at church
The altar at church was looking wonderful this morning, ready for celebrating Thanksgiving in a few weeks time. It was a special and emotional service this morning, remembering those from, or connected to the church family, who passed away this year, including Gene, the father of our senior pastor, who himself had been a former pastor of the church, and had been named Pastor Emeritus, and was still quite active, leading classes etc, well into his 80’s. It also included Sue, the wife of our music director, and the husband and son of a former choir member. She and her husband, both quite elderly were in assisted living, and her husband had passed away a few months ago, and then we received the shocking news last week that her son had committed suicide! So tragic. M had been a fellow alto with me, but she never came back to church after Covid, watching from home instead.
We stayed for Bible study as usual, then later in the afternoon we went down to Hyde Park United Methodist to hear an organ recital. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite as planned. It was supposed to have been organ with flute, a duo from Philadelphia area, but unfortunately the female flautist was ill and unable to come, so the organist had put together a solo program at short notice, which was still very enjoyable. We met someone we know there, and so stayed afterwards for the reception and had a chat with her.
