Small tortoiseshell butterfly
I am so pleased to see all of the butterflies near the old pit village of Waldridge where my sister lives. When I was a girl there was still a working pit with winding wheel here (our grandad worked down this pit with all the health hazards that gave till the end of his life) and everything was coated in coal dust. Now nature has reclaimed its rightful place up here and the fell at Waldridge is arare area of lowland heath and therefore protected.
