America

Most of the day was quiet. Although last night was not too late, it was later than we expected because of the overrunning show, and as a result, I got pretty tired towards the end of the day. We spent the evening watching the old Top of The Pops on BBC Four: 1996 featuring The Beautiful South, Madonna and The Spice Girls was first. Then another 1996 featured The Lightning Seeds (forced to sing live, badly) and a very young-looking Boyzone. Violinist Nigel Kennedy presented this one.

I don't remember when they stopped with the Radio One presenters and moved to programme-specific presenters, but Peter Powell and Steve Wright hosted the 1995 episode that was next. I'd forgotten that the Howard's Way Theme was a big hit then. Mark Franklin was one of the presenters on the last episode we watched, with Crowded House singing 'Fall At Your Feet'. We tried to remember whether that had been performed at this year's Isle of Wight Festival.

I realise that I haven't written anything about the American election. The mug I brought PY from California many years ago was used for tea this evening, and it made me think. On Tuesday, I didn't watch any of the on-the-night coverage of the US elections after I'd watched the opening 5 minutes of Channel Four's coverage, and it was already shouty and argumentative. I found out the result when I woke on Wednesday. People were visibly down at my morning standup. I am avoiding doom-scrolling today.
