Remembrance Day Remembering

Thanks so much to everyone who left me a Happy Blip Birthday message yesterday.  I’m not sure whether I’ll get to thank you all individually but please know I appreciate all your lovely words and those stars and hearts, you’re all wonderful!! ; )xxxx

I spent some time this afternoon at the park on my favourite bench contemplating Remembrance Day.  My maternal Grandfather Jensen was a Danish man who fought in the 1st World War and at some point he was injured in the groin and sent home to recover.  That’s all I really know about his war experience, that part of his life was not talked about much, he died before I was born.
He came to Australia soon after the war and met my Grandmother and they were married and had three children.  His sister also came to Australia and she was a wonderful woman, a fantastic cook and so loving and welcoming.  Auntie Anna was a standout person in my memories!  Neither of them ever went back to Denmark and I wonder how that must have been for them.  I’ll never know as they’re all gone now, but one of my nieces is very passionate about Ancestry.com and has unearthed some more info about Grandfather Jensen which is really exciting, I’m yet to get all the details!
I’ll never forget my Grandfather who I never met and his sister who I loved very much.
I dream of a world with no wars but I don’t think it will ever eventuate!
