Camara de Lobos

And my blip is a representation of one of the lobos, made out of recycled material. It’s very clever but doesn’t look quite as good close up.

You hear various English versions of the name of the creature. In Portuguese it is “lobo Marinho” and the most usual term is “monk seal”. Apparently it’s the rarest seal in the world. They are now a protected creature to be found mainly on the Ilhas Desertas but you’ll hear of sightings of young ones on the Sao Lourenco peninsula. There’s also apparently a really old one who visits the Funchal Marina but I’ve never been lucky enough to see him.

I met up with Jeanneb53 and her husband near our hotels and we took the bus into Camara de Lobos.  It’s one of my favourite day trips from Funchal. In days when I could walk further, I too have taken the walk through the caves all the way (sadly blocked in places now.)

After we went our separate ways, I went for a gentle Sunday lunch in Vila do Peixe, a fabulous restaurant which overlooks this pretty village (extra)

A super day.
Thank you, my blip friends, for your company, and safe journey tomorrow.
