Means To An End
Not the prettiest bridge in York (though, as many of you know, I'm quite partial to "brutal"), but probably the most significant.
Until the late 1960s, to cross the river between communities round here involved about a ten mile round trip. Or you didn't bother.
I went to elementary school on the side to the left of this shot. When the bridge was built, there was much excitement when we got incomers from Clifton for goodness sake...
Bit like the ducks this morning... "Oi, Hirundos aren't waterbirds - quack off!"
