Mona Vale

I flew down to Christchurch today to complete an assessment down here. I had a bit of an opportunity to drive around and was blown away by the vastness of what has happened down there.

Mona Vale, with its homestead formerly known as Karewa, is a public park of 4 ha in the Christchurch suburb of Fendalton. The homestead and gate house are both listed as heritage buildings with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (NZHPT). The fernery and the rose garden, and pavilion with the setting of the park along the Avon River, add to the attractiveness of the property. It is one of the major tourist attractions of Christchurch. However it is closed as it sustained significant damage in the Quakes. You might be able to see one of the big cracks on it.

I stayed at my cousin's place, and she surprised me by having dinner guests...her parents and sister. So lovely to see them!
