Cripple Creek, Colorado Springs

First of all, may I apologise for not commenting on your journals, it's gotten a lot busier since Chicago.

We had a lovely time exploring today, despite the fog and rain! We went up to The Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine in Cripple Creek up in this part of the Rocky Mountains. Stopped on our way down to get this pic, the drive was breathtaking and we had many photo ops.

Cripple Creek was just like being in an old country and western movie, complete with those old shop fronts. Really cool.

At the highest point today, we were 9000ft above sea level. Getting down to do tour of the mine, we had to go down 1000ft in a VERY tiny lift. All six of us were squished in there and it felt quite claustrophobic.
It was fascinating learning about how miners worked in those days, the late 1800s. We had a renewed appreciating for a boring old desk job for sure!

As it was raining when we still came up, Bob & Gail took us to WALMART!!! And we were greeted by one of the managers who was very welcoming. I actually bought something there and now we've been there done that too.

Then dinner at a fabulous steak house which we all thoroughly enjoyed and sadly could not finish our meals.
