Goodge Street Station

I hope the scaffolding indicates that the wonderful Goodge Street Station is being maintained and looked after, and will soon be returned to its former glory.

This Underground station is one of fifty that architect Leslie Green was commissioned to design in the early 1900s. His stations are recognisable from the ox-blood red tiles on the outside, although each station had its own coloured designs inside. Goodge Street (originally called Tottenham Court Road, until 1908) is one of few stations that still has lifts instead of escalators, pretty amazing when you consider it serves over 5 million people every year.

Goodge Street Station opened in 1907 and happens to be where I first kissed my wife, 94 years later.
