Chard
We went into Chard today and was intrigued by this impressive sculpture on the High Street. The accompanying plaque states that it was created by Neville Gabie in 1991 and comprises hand casts mixed with mechanical forms to reflect Chard's industrial heritage of hand made processes, craftsmanshio and imagination. Later in the day we went to Montacute House, which is an Elizabethan National Trust property. Only three rooms were open in the house itself but they were very interesting and atmospheric. The formal gardens were magnificent. The house was built by Edwin Phelips, the lawyer to James l (James Vl of Scotland) who was directly involved in the prosecution of the Gunpowder Plot conspirators, so a timely visit to make on 6 November.
