More storm damage...
After Hurricane Milton, De Soto National Memorial put up signs that it was temporarily closed. Today we wanted to check the status after visiting mom. We were only able to walk to De Soto beach via an adjacent path that's part of Riverside Point Preserve. When we got there we saw four beached boats. And just inside the beach, one of the park memorials had toppled over... I noticed the great white egrets did not seem to mind, but is was sad for us to see the damage.
After hurricane Helene in late September, the De Soto Park Information building was flooded and we didn't get very far into the park. Some of the walking paths had water damage from storm surge and there were fallen trees too. I think it will take some time for De Soto to recover. Steve & I won't be able to walk there for a while. Ugh. I will be glad when the photos I share will not be storm related. It's not very uplifting.
Speaking of that, as you might imagine, we are a bit out of sorts after learning the election results this morning. I have decided to give up following news for a while, as I am sure it will be too upsetting. The silver lining (as I try to think of something good) is I will have more time to reconnect with art making and also more time to read. I enjoyed an interesting book while traveling last month - The last list of Mable Beaumont. More reading would be a very good distraction. At the moment I simply have to turn to other things that will keep me from thinking too much about the state of affairs in this country. I also believe continuing to share my photos here & journaling about them will also be a salve for me. Onwards....
