Alnmouth to Warkworth - and a very early Christmas
Today we walked from Alnmouth to Warkworth, mainly along the beach. My main blip is of my favourite rock formation encountered along the route. I think that this is meta sandstone.
It was lovely weather for a walk in November: very mild and still, with occasional glimpses of blue sky and weak sunshine peeking through the clouds.
After a recce around 'town', including a visit to Warkworth castle ruins from the outside, perusal of a gift shop, and drinks in the most bizarrely decorated coffee shop (extra), we caught the excellent X18 bus service back to Alnmouth.
We popped down the road for an early supper so that we could take part in the inn's pub quiz this evening. We joined two friends on holiday together to make a team of four. Little did we know on first meeting them that one of the other couple is a fully-fledged quizzer who has been on Mastermind (specialist subject 'Castles of Northumberland') and Brain of Britain, and has applied to/been auditioned for several other UK quiz shows. The other one is a professional musician and knows one of Frank Read's former bassoon pupils very well. (We came joint second in the quiz.)
I am glad that we are on holiday and mainly avoiding today's news and its immediate aftermath.
Exercise today: walking (18,330 steps).
