The Lion’s Mouth

This is the byway to Susted, bordering NT Felbrigg Hall. I believe there is a legend about a ferocious mythical creature that lived here which was so frightening that if one saw it then one’s mouth would gape open…like a lion’s mouth. Um…not sure about that but it’s a very attractive lane, especially this time of year and is designated as a ‘roadside nature reserve’. This is an initiative between Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Wildlife Trust to preserve this area for wildlife.

Despite the lack of sun and it being another very gloomy day, the beautiful mature beech trees provide their own brightness and richness along this pretty lane.
