SMASHED IT

So . . . Jolly Boys Outing . . . the rules and regs are . . .
1.  Have to use £10 Day Rover Ticket only on Northern Trains, after a 09.00 start
2. The idea is to travel as many miles as possible and get home by the last train at 20.21.
3. Have to eat pies and cakes and chocolate biscuits . . . not grand
4. Have to recharge phones en-route . . . as opposed to en-croute
5. The current record is 311 miles
So . . .  staff shortages meant a 20 minute delay in starting . . . a points failure put us even further behind . . . . Assuming connections would be missed a new route was planned . . . however . . . a 60 second dash enabled the connection to be made. Despite a further signal failure . . . and a total halt as someone had lit a bonfire right next to the line, which the driver thought was on the line . . . we made it home just 12 minutes late.
And that record . . . smashed as 358 miles covered . . . Home to Sheffield, Sheffield to Nottingham, where the Class 66 loco in the image was passing through, Nottingham to Leeds, Leeds to York, York to Hull and Hull to home.
Thanks for all the planning M . . . another grand day out . . . and even the Fat Controller was happy !
