A friendly nurse had suggested I get a Port. This can be used to give medication, take blood etc.
That sounded simple. Later I discovered having a portacath involves a procedure in theatre with just a local anaesthetic. All the equipment was rather daunting, and the doc did need to push hard to get it into my chest, but everything went well.
They gave me a cup of tea and a sandwich for being brave.
