The next installment
It's been a quiet day getting ready for a training day tomorrow. The kids come back to school on Wednesday.
I wanted to say a few more things about grizzly 399 as I've learned more. There was an investigation and it was found that it was purely an accident. The person driving commuted along that route and was not speeding. When 399 and her cub came on to the road he swerved to miss the cub and ended up hitting her. They are not revealing his name as there would be lots of repercussions even though it was an accident. It is terribly tragic and this person must feel awful. Her cub was not collared and hasn't been spotted but they are thinking it has a good chance of surviving the winter due to its size. We can only hope. They have cremated her remains are spreading them back in the forest. This was a first as most animals are pulled off into the forest or some even are stuffed and put into a museum. She was such a special bear and known so widely that the forest service decided this was a fitting end. I think it is.
I'm including a link with a message and tribute from someone who photographed her many times. There are some amazing photos of her if you want to check it out.
