Op ordeal
A long wait in the Trauma Assessment Unit yesterday morning….. their coordinator had called in sick, the clinicians needed my notes and they couldn’t access the office.
Eventually they got the door code & found them.
I waited from 0700 until almost 1400 before being given a gown, to change in the toilet & wait for a porter to bring a trolley to wheel me into theatre.
That happened, just as the anaesthetist was called away for an emergency….. I was left on the trolley in the theatre chatting nursing staff, canula in & ready to go….. I asked if I could see the plate that i was having inserted. About the size of a large yale like key, with several different sized holes around the top, for screws to attach to the various fragments of bone.
It was a good hour before I was put under.
What a horrible feeling that was!!
By the time I was up on the Ward being woken up it was gone 2000 hrs, needless to say family members were getting more than a little worried as they hadn’t heard from me since 1.30 when I said i’d be off shortly !!
I was really poorly from the GA just managed one quick message to C at 2035 to let him know I was done. Had lots of antisickness meds, settled down & felt better by this morning, managed some tea & toast.
My arm is very sore but i can cope with that now i’m feeling human & am home at C’s for next 6-8 weeks :-)
Back in 2 weeks for first review of progress
