Ode to a Damson Tree
"Oh sweet Damson Tree,
Why dost thou lay so low,
Broken never more to fruit,
By the early winter snow."
Our oldest Damson tree which yielded an abundance of fruit in the Autumn just gone has fallen foul of the weight of the first snows of winter. Broken beyond repair right at the base, it shall fruit no more.
