Beyond the gate...
Beyond the gate in yesterday's blip there is a beach, at the end of which is the sorry port of Anzio.
When the port still flourished, Anzio was famous for the capture and trasformazione of sardines. The port entrance is currently tricky on account of accumulated sand and silt, which is great for the beaches that grow longer each year. Few ferries these days though.
Anzio was was also famous for events during WW2 and the Allied landing.
Not forgetting good old Nerone who had a whopping villa here, the remains of which can still been seen today.
I have heard that Anzio is currently famous for the presence, hold your breath, of a hairdresser in the area called Federico Fashion Style.
It is said that it costs a month's salary to have hair cut there!
NEVER listen to heresay. I just checked out the price list and a hair cut costs from 23 to 48 euros, depending on whether the man himself does it or not.
I pay 38 euros to have my hair cut by Rita, a local girl who is not famous.
I saw a woman with siliconed lips that protruded like a skirt beneath her nose, so there is no accounting for individual taste and expression of vanity.
