Loweswater

Set off to pick up R from Keswick but the A66 was closed. I managed to weave my way through eventually and we headed off for a lovely day’s walking over at Loweswater which was overcast but full of rich autumn colour. Our first stop on the way was for coffee at the Bassenthwaite Lake Station. It’s the first time I’d been there since watching the train carriage being lifted in during the depths of Covid when I was driving through there on the empty roads to work, with my letter of permission to travel. It feels like another world thinking about that time. I hadn’t realised that it was the carriage used for the filming of The Orient Express.

We headed on for our walk stopping for a sandwich at the Kirkstile, which I also hadn’t been to for years, and then back along the lakeshore and home again for supper.
