'Wheels at parkrun'
These three at the start of Edinburgh parkrun today show how parkrun isn't just about running, jogging and walking round the course!
There's volunteering, and that's vital to make parkrun happen, but as far as getting around the 5k course is concerned, parkrun welcomes the use of legs and feet and, within limits, the use of wheels!
Some wheeled items are no-nos for safety reasons, including bicycles, balance bikes, unicycles, scooters, tricycles, hoverboards, skateboards, roller skates, and rollerblades.
Wheels at parkrun are mainly about making the event more accessible. Wheelchair users are welcome, and if someone has a long-term condition that prevents them from getting round in a wheelchair on their own, they can use a motorised chair or be pushed around by someone else. They can still register and get a time.
Pushchairs, prams, and running buggies are encouraged so families can participate together.
At Edinburgh, at least a couple of people use frame runners, a three-wheeled frame where a saddle and body plate support the person who uses their feet to propel themselves around.
