washing
I took a lot of photos today and it’s now late and I can’t decide what to blip. This photo will have to do :-)
Before there was a cathedral at Gloucester, there was an abbey, named for St Peter, and the most beautiful cloisters I’ve ever seen were where they worked and walked. This part is the lavatorium, where they would wash and dry their hands before meals. The stained glass here is Victorian and is all on biblical themes of water. The cloisters are famous for being used in the Harry Potter films.
Everything about this cathedral took my breath away, from the Perpendicular architecture to the stained glass. I discovered the modern work of Thomas Denny, who made the memorial windows for Ivor Gurney and Gerald Finzi. www.thomasdenny.co.uk
All too soon, it was time to leave Gloucester and take the train into London and then out again to visit Sarah, who was waiting for me at the station with Merry :-)
