Fresh Air

By MH

Sad day for me.

I heard today that an old friend had died. It wasn't entirely unexpected, he'd suffered from dementia and diabetes for years and was in a care home.

The significance of today's blip is that a few months after I'd moved (or more accurately "been moved") to live in Sunbury-onThames in the early 60s, he took me and my newly acquired boyfriend to the Crawdaddy to see the Rolling Stones. That led to immersing ourselves in the Yardbirds who followed the Stones there. He took us to Eel Pie Island, the Marquee Club and other venues.

Then followed a lifetime of enjoying live music to this day - Eric Clapton, Manfred Mann, Bruce Springsteen, INXS, Queen, Meatloaf, Albert Lee and my daughter's partner's bands Coal Porters and the Dog Roses. Others too many to mention/recall!

His legacy to me has been extraordinary. RIP Ray.
