Wednesday
Our regular morning routine was performed in the most peaceful and windless conditions, every bird that hasn’t flown to South Africa was singing or crowing.
Rosehips and very visible as leaves start to fall although we saw some blackberry blossom!! Maisie came over to say hello and then carried on with her own routine.
A nice chat with Vivienne on return before arranging to return a dog collar we had found last night. The owner was on holiday in Appledore and hadn’t even realised that the dog wasn’t wearing it anymore.
I arrived in Appledore at midday returned said collar and retrieved my walking staff from the boat which we had been out on the previous evening. Low tide provided easy access apart from some squelchy alluvial mud!
I spontaneously decided to walk to Bideford and back along the coast path which would give Dippy and I some good views together with some different terrain and off the lead time.
Dippy gained confidence in the water as the tide pushed in and seemed very happy with himself.
Plenty of fungi and one super big field mushroom to come home with us.
Several other walkers were walking the opposite way, old acquaintances and new friends were in good spirits.
We shared a chicken sandwich, a flapjack and plenty of water in Bideford before heading back and arriving in Appledore at dusk. Just a few crab fishing families were around and enjoyed playing with Dippy whilst hauling in dozens of tiny hard shell crabs.
Back to Amadeus for supper of beef stew and crusty sourdough bread before more reading and listening to Dippy snoring away suitably fatigued.
Zzzzzz
