The Last Days of the Road

I (Annie) went for a walk at lunchtime to the other end of our village, where HS2 currently has the main road closed. I wanted to go and say hello and goodbye to this stretch of road, which will soon disappear. It’s where the HS2 line will cross in a cutting - and soon will be dug up. The main road is being routed over a new bridge, just to the left.

This road has been in this position for hundreds of years, so it seems sad it has to move.
