Six Spot Burnet

Until I started blipping I wouldn't have noticed these and I wouldn't have known what they were - Zygaena filipendulae or above

Thank you to everyone for educating me.

We went for a walk along the Itchen navigation ie the canal than links Southampton to Winchester to supply the coal to the Bishops of Winchester - obviously very important people.

The canal runs parallel to the now disused railway line that ran into Chesil, the terminus of the Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway (DNSR). For a while we walked along the old track bed until the lack of a bridge prevented us going further.

We met lots of people out with their dogs, most of them enjoying a paddle in the cooling water. One very enthusiastic bearded collie jumped up to say hello, smattering me water and muddy paws. I didn't mind

On the way back to the car we spotted these two having a good time on a thistle
