Memories
I've chosen the memories of the friendship I had with my German penfriend, Renate. German was one of the subjects I chose to study at Elmwood Convent school for girls in the mid sixties. I also studied French, but preferred German as the accent was much better for me to handle as I am Scottish. Part of the studies was to have a penfriend and we wrote to each other from around 1964 until 1989. We also visited each other and to my horror, I arrived in Frankfurt airport in August? of 1966 on the Saturday that England beat Germany at football in the World cup. I was very young and knew nothing about football, but Renate had been a bit mixed up and thought I was arriving on the Sunday. Two air hostesses took me home with them and then back into the airport on the Sunday to meet up with Renate. In the airport on the Saturday some Germans weren't very nice to me when they heard me speak English and I had to say several time "ich bin nicht eine Englander, Ich bin eine Schottlander.
The following year, Renate came to visit me in Scotland.. I can't remember whether the photobooth shots were taken in Germany or here in Scotland. Jim and I visited Renate and her family on several occasions and there is a photo of our children together in her apartment.
Thanks to SK for hosting.
