Autumnal tints

The blue sky this morning, promised a beautiful day; we weren't disappointed.
Although we were  wowed by all the lovely spring gardens we saw  recently in New Zealand and Australia, we felt the  need to revisit our favourite local garden in autumn. It was also an opportunity to get back on our bikes again. Road conditions  proved perfect  for  the  ten mile ride to Hilliers Gardens. We spent a very happy three hours wandering in the gardens. The Liquidamber and  Acer trees were looking particularly magnificent One extra shows the  leaves  on a rare  L. styraciflua  "Variegata" , which  attracted  my attention. The third extra shows another spectacular Liquidamber (Sweet Gum ) tree.
I also liked the little bedewed  cobwebs on a dwarf spruce.
On our return home we found Peter tortoise still asleep in his  bed of hay, despite the warm sunshine, so we concluded he must now be hibernating and we've moved him in his house into the shed( for  better protection).
