Breaking Weather

So much better than 'breaking news' which often seems like it is neither breaking, nor news....

We watched these clouds develop last night as we sat outside with our wine and the dogs. Spike chases his Kong, Blake ambles around and we try to make sense of whatever needs it, which these days seems to be just about everything!

This morning we awoke to rain. It wasn't heavy and didn't last long, but it gave the impression that winter is arriving. I dressed accordingly only to step outside and discover that it was quite balmy. Now the clouds are breaking up and the sun is starting to come out. We may be able to sit outside this evening after all. I seems that what we are getting is the tail end of some weather system that is concentrating its energy on the Pacific Northwest as predicted.

My neighbor Ann is on her second weekend of Art Trails. Artists open their studios to the public who can be somewhat fickle leaving her with time on her hands between visitors. She has a beautiful big studio with wonderful light, part of which is dedicated to The other hat she wears...landscape designer. She has managed to create a beautiful garden in the same hostile conditions as ours. I meant to ask her if she is battling ground squirrels but a nice couple from Sussex came in and we all got to talking about Britain. Ann is South African and lived in London for quite a long time, and I qualified to join in the conversation by virtue of my time spent in Edinburgh. They barely looked at Ann's work but they were nice people. Apparently this is about how it goes....

I took a picture of a glimpse of the front garden as I walked down the driveway which I have put in extras.

We didn't have our jacket potatoes last night because it turned out that we had neither potatoes nor cheese. John remedied that by going to the store today,  so we'll be having them tonight.
