Smoke tree lights up

We have a Cotinus coggygria tree (fortunately also known as the more easily pronounced 'Smoke' tree) beside the path between the house and the garage. Its on the north side of the house so doesn't get much direct sun most of the year. But I noticed this week that it is catching both the rising and the setting sun.
