More murals
It's been a beautiful day.
I spent the morning in the garden, sweeping up leaves and doing other minor pre-winter jobs.
In the afternoon Richard and I went off to Burngreave and Attercliffe, in Sheffield's East End. There are murals there that I've been meaning to record for ArtUK for some time. So we explored a bit together and I photographed the main ones that I'd been after.
This one is on a side street between the canal and the River Don. In the background is the city's "Energy Recovery Facility", aka a massive incinerator, which burns rubbish and produces energy (see extra for a clearer view). Some of the energy goes to the national grid and some to a local district heating system.
Veolia - the company that runs the incinerator - claims that the emissions are low and that it's a climate-friendly facility. Others disagree, pointing to the high levels of Co2 released by the incinerator. More here, for anyone who wants to take a closer look:

Recently the BBC ran a report about the disturbing levels of greenhouse gases being released by these kinds of rubbish incinerator. Sheffield has below-average rates of recycling, so the whole situation needs addressing. Another vexed question for a cash-strapped local authority.
