Local delicacies

You won’t be puzzled by today’s blip if you know the Black Country. I didn’t buy them, but I found plenty of other good value and tempting bargains.

In yesterday’s Times there was an article about the best 35 farm shops in Britain. I love farm shops and went down the list looking for our regularly praised local ones.

Not a word about the Chatsworth Farm Shop (her ladyship’s wonderful brainwave).
Not a word about the Canalside Farm Shop, a favourite with blippers.
Not even a mention of the Denstone Farm Shop (in my home village).
In fact, there were very few in the Midlands, but one caught my eye.

Essington Farm Shop.
It has a Wolverhampton postcode and it’s very close to me, a little way outside Cannock.

I had to check it out.

Today was not the best day. They grow pumpkins and do PYO (pick your own). It was heaving with families, wheeling barrows with enormous pumpkins….. (extra)

But the main shop was quiet and the cafe was lovely.

It’s certainly an excellent farm shop. Real local produce at reasonable prices (if you don’t count the Wagyu rump steak priced at £40. - that’s for the one steak. £125 per kilo.)

They know their stuff, too - one of the butchers told me they regularly have bavette (my favourite steak) ox tail, pigs feet, sausage meat in lots of variations.

I will certainly be back.

Edit : the quotation translates as “don’t go home without them”………
