In other news ...... Himself has sold his "pride and joy" - his Audi TT Quattro.
Since the diagnosis of vascular dementia, early last year, he now has a medical driving licence which has to be renewed annually instead of every three years. It's just been renewed for another year but, as he says, his actual mobility/balance is so poor now that, although he can drive, when he gets to his destination he can't really get out and wander around. He says it seems a bit pointless having a lovely car sitting there, paying for road tax, servicing, MoT and insurance, when he's not using it.
After a lot of thought it's now gone!
I cried for him because it seems his last little bit of independence has gone with it.
On the positive side, he'd had it from new (nine years), it was in immaculate condition with only 48,000 miles on the clock and we got 52% of what we paid for it. An excellent deal in my opinion.
I spent a full day online with those "we buy your car" websites (yep, I know, they are not the best places to sell as they almost always quote high but then pay low on inspection) - we didn't want the hassle of 'tyre kickers', test drives and all that a private sale entails so it seemed the best bet. Quick, clean and (fairly) painless.
We got around 15 quotes - the lowest and the highest approx. £3000 (US$ 3,900) apart - then I stumbled across a company called Swansway (other companies are available) and, following a couple of phone conversations, me sending about 20 photos via whatsapp, we got a guaranteed price at the upper end of the other figures we had received.
The offer came on Monday, a driver arrived on Thursday, he then took a few more photos and sent them to the company, the company messaged back to say "customer paid". I checked the bank account and, hey presto, there was the promised amount, languishing in our account, ten minutes later. He then got the keys (I got tears in my eyes) and, poof, the car was gone.
The end of an era. I'm still sad for him but there's nothing I can do.
Anyhoo, the company were great, James and Lyndsey, were brilliant and made it easy for us. Highly recommended.
