R. B. Cunninghame Graham on his horse Pampa
This portrait is part of the Sir John Lavery current exhibition at the National Gallery in Edinburgh. Cunninghame Graham’s horse Pampa in the portrait was rescued from pulling Glasgow trams. The Lavery exhibition was well worth seeing. Lavery (1856 to 1941) spans the century with his consistently steady style, interest in many people and places, from the great exhibition to society portraits and Moroccan casbahs.
